About ECIC

Following the success of two independent congresses – the International Cokemaking Congress (ICMC) and the European Ironmaking Congress (EIC) – the European Coke and Ironmaking Congress (ECIC) will seamlessly combin both worlds of coke and ironmaking. After taking place in Aachen (1st EIC 1986), Essen (1st ICMC 1987), Glasgow (2nd EIC 1991), London (2nd ICMC 1992), Gent (3rd ECIC 1996), Paris (4th ECIC 2000) and Stockholm (5th ECIC 2005), now Düsseldorf will be the location of this outstanding event.

Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populated province of Germany, is also home of the Steel Institute VDEh. Düsseldorf has strong connections to the coke, iron and steel industries thanks to the adjacent Ruhr region, the traditional home to coke, iron and steel making facilities. Taking all of this into account, the ECIC 2011 is guaranteed to be an impressive gathering of experts. The ECIC is a part of the METEC InsteelCon 2011.

Scope and Topics

The Congress will bring together a wide range of experts, coming from plant operation, plant suppliers and research institutes, who share expertise in:

  • Coke making
  • Iron ore production and handling
  • Sintering
  • Pelletising
  • Blast furnace iron making
  • Direct reduction
  • Smelting reduction
  • Environmental control in iron making
  • CO2 reduction and energy saving
  • Recycling of in-plant residues

The Congress will provide a forum for best practice and state-of-the-art technology. It will also take a look at developments in the foreseeable future.
